The Best Knot For Tying A Shoe

When I was young, I learned to tie my shoes with a simple standard shoelace knot. It did the job, most of the time. But sometimes at least one would slowly work it’s way loose or undone. In fact, this happened about every day. It’s not hard to retie a shoe, so I didn’t much care.

Then recently, I had a job interview. I hadn’t interviewed for a new job in years. I needed a new suit and some shoes. I don’t wear dress shoes. I grew up in boots. Typically that’s fine, I have dress boots, but my slim-legged new suit wouldn’t accommodate the boot tops. So shoes.

The laces of these shoes were slippery buggers. As hard as I pulled, I could not keep the standard shoelace knot tied for any length of time.

Searching the webs, I came across the Burluti shoelace knot, which begins with a double starting knot. Problem solved. I now use this to tie every shoe and boot that I pull on my feet and only once has one come loose.
